PARENT/STUDENT HANDBOOK
2023-2024

       
                                                 SCHOOL POLICY ON SOCIAL MEDIA:
Parents and guardians must remember that there is no privacy with anything written and communicated via any form of social media.  It is expected that parents/guardians of St. Dominic School students, and students attending St. Dominic School use discretion and responsibility when using any form of social media; and, parents/guardians of St. Dominic School students, and, students attending St. Dominic School are expected to refrain from the use of any negative image, comment, and/or negative promotion towards the school and employees, past and present of the school.

It is expected that parents/guardians of St. Dominic School and students attending St. Dominic School use caution when associating one’s self/child/image in any social media or social media forum that openly, intentionally or otherwise, inadvertently misrepresents and/or  bring detriment to the name, character, or reputation of the school including students, faculty, clergy, administration, staff, volunteers, past or present; or, any part of the entity/entities knows as St. Dominic School, St. Dominic Church, St. Dominic Cemetery, St. Dominic Parish Center, Marian Hall.

                                      Use/Misuse of Electronic Communication:
Whether occurring within or outside of school, when a student’s use of electronic communication jeopardizes the safe environment of the school or is contrary to Gospel values, the student can be subject to the full range of disciplinary consequences, including expulsion and/or involvement of law enforcement. Parents are asked to monitor their child's cell phone use while under their supervision as well as  apps,they are visiting.
We at school would be glad to inform a parent of a situation brought to our attention after school hours but the sole responsibility is on the parent. File a police report if necessary or better yet, get in touch with the child's parent, they probably aren't aware of their child's misuse. Remember, each cell phone is registered and owned by the parent/guardian who pays the fees and legally you're the owner. This is why a parent must monitor their child's cell phoine use on a regular basis. There is a fine line here and the administration can not visit homes and monitor what is being texted etc. These situations are brought into school and cause many unnecessry issues. Take charge and check the cell phones. If you need to file a police report do it. We, the administration will be glad to talk with parents and students involved but parents need to be vigilant and proactive. 
Also, Parents/guardians need to listen to song lyrics as well. Websites like TicTock etc. needs to be monitored. There are many dangers involved allowing a child to use your cell phone and social media. Don't be afraid to take it away from them if they are using it as a  bullying means as well. 
On our watch from 8 to 3Pm all goes well. They are locked up and not in use. If reported, they are confiscated and picked up by a parent at the end of the day. 
This policy applies to communications or depictions through email, text messages, or web site postings, whether they occur through the school’s equipment or connectivity resources or through private communication, which:
Are of sexual nature, threaten, libel ,slander, malign, disparage, harass or embarrass members of the school community,  or cause harm to the school community.
Each situation brought to ur attention is dealt with on an individual basis and the Pastor/Principal have the final say in regards to disciplinary actions at our level and reporting to the legal authorities any serious issues involving school safety. Be proactive at-home and examine the cell phone you are allowing your child to use especially while under your supervision after school hours. 

                                                           ELECTRONIC DEVICES:
Students are not permitted to bring electronic devices to school.  The school is not responsible for any electronic device brought into school and/or while on school property, and/or while participating in any school activity at another location. This includes switches, ear-pods, air-pods, as well. Keep them at home. 

                                                         PERSONAL PROPERTY:
Each student is responsible for his/her personal belongings.  The school is not responsible for any students personal items brought into the school and/or while on school property; and/or during a student’s participation in any school activity.  The school is not responsible for any personal items or belongings left on the bus.  Items turned in to the office will be placed in the school’s Lost & Found for a period of thirty (30) days. No toys are permitted to be brought in to school, unless designated by teacher.

                                                                          MONEY:
St. Dominic School is not responsible for lost or stolen money when a child brings money to school for the purpose of purchasing items during such times as: the school store, bake sale, field trip, flower sale, Secret Santa, etc.  It is strongly suggested that parent/guardian place money in a sealed envelope with the child’s name and room number on the envelope.  Parents/guardians should instruct the child to give the sealed envelope to his/her homeroom teacher upon arrival to the classroom to be held until the appropriate time.The Morning Envelopes for each homeroom are collectedfirst thing in the morning and sent to the main office by 8:15 AM.

                                                                STUDENT PROPERTY:
Every student at St. Dominic School deserves respect.  This respect extends between students in regards to the student’s belongings and work space while in school

The respect of student’s belongings includes, but is not limited to, clothing, coats. Book bag, back pack, books, items brought in for show and tell, school projects, school supplies, notebooks, pencil case, eye glasses, lunch box and other personal items that may be brought to school.
The intentional taking of another student’s belongings for any reason including misuse or destruction, will not be tolerated.  Students are discouraged from taking any item from another student for any reason. Disciplinary action will be taken at the discretion of the Principal.

                                                              STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
Every student at SDS is responsible for his/her behavior, words, actions, and deeds.  Above all, students are encouraged to act and speak in a manner that reflects the Gospel and moral principles of the Church.  Students are expected to: show respect and reverence during school prayer and in church, demonstrate respect towards others, treat others with kindness, speak in a courteous and respectful manner towards all others, appreciate and respect the differences each person possesses, strive for unity and inclusion of others, participate to the best of one’s ability, take ownership of one’s actions, represent the school with dignity, adhere to the St. Dominic School dress code; follow classroom, lunchroom, playground, bus procedures; and, complete school assignments on time.

Lying, stealing, cheating, disrespect in church, offensive words or gestures, showing disrespect to fellow students/adults/teacher/administration/clergy/staff/volunteers and aides; plagiarism, malicious behavior, cyber bullying, bullying, and insubordination will not be tolerated and will be assessed and addressed by the Principal and Pastor.

                                                                   SCHOOL MATERIALS:
The school provides materials for students to use during the school year.  School materials including textbooks, classroom furnishing, computers/chromebooks, I-Pads, sports equipment, musical instruments, art supplies, etc., are property of the school and on loan to students during the school year.

Students are responsible for maintaining the condition of the materials loaned to them during the school year, and are to report any loss or damage of materials.  Any loss of material loaned to the student, or damage of material loaned to the student, is the responsibility of the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s) and must be replaced at the expense of the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s).

                                                SCHOOL BUILDING AND PREMISIS: 
Students are expected to maintain an appropriate standard of behavior during the school day.  Such behavior includes and demonstrates a respect for the school building, school property, and items of the school.

Any behavior, intentional or otherwise, that leads to the destruction or damage to the school or school property will be addressed by the administration.  The cost to fix and/or replace items damaged as a result of inappropriate/destructive behavior; intentional or otherwise; becomes the financial responsibility of the student’s parent(s)/guardian(s).
 
                                                    SCHOOL BOOKS AND SUPPLIES:
All books must be neatly covered. Workbooks and paperback books may be covered in clear contact papers; hardback books are to be covered with paper book covers or book socks.
All textbooks are on loan to the student for the school year.  Students may not scribble or mark a book in any way.  Such behavior will warrant a demerit.  Books that are lost or ruined must be paid for in full.  All books which are property of the school bust be carried to and from school in a waterproof book bag.

Lists of the grade appropriate materials and necessary school supplies will be posted on the school’s website or facebook page.  Certain required materials will be available for purchase on the first day of school.  The cost of these items will be noted on the school supply list.  Payment is expected at the time of purchase.

                                                                      CURRICULUM:
The academic program of Saint Dominic School, kindergarten through grade eight, is based on the Common Core Standards as adopted by the Office of Catholic Education of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.   Information about the standards is available for review at www.catholicschools-phl.org and through a link on the school’s website.

                                                              LEARNING SUPPORT:
St. Dominic School endeavors to accommodate students who qualify for additional services and where circumstances reasonably permit.  SDS offers a Learning Support classroom for students who demonstrate learning differences.  SDS reserves the right to decline admission or impose reasonable conditions of attendance and/or performance where indicated under the circumstances.

                                  MEETING THE NEEDS OF INDIVIDUAL LEARNERS:
St. Dominic School has a complete Learning Support program with two learning support classroom teachers. The LS program is available to students in the elementary grades one through eight. 

The goal of the program is to work with each student on an individual or small group basis, to nurture the child’s self-esteem and development, and, to develop the skills necessary for the student to successfully re-enter the age appropriate class.

A modified or adapted curriculum will be developed for any student who demonstrated a need.  Upon receipt of the necessary evaluative information, a meeting will be set up with the principal, teacher, school support staff, parent/guardian, and student.  A plan will be developed addressing the necessary adaptations in the curriculum and provisions for grading will be outlined.

                                                             AUXILIARY SERVICES:
Under Act 89, the Pennsylvania Auxiliary Service Act, services are provided to SDS by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  For the 2022-2023 academic school year, SDS will receive Title I services through CATAPULT learning.

The Availability of additional server is and degree of available services for the programs is contingent, annually, upon state funding. Parental permission for all services is required.  These services are provided on site, free of charge.  CATAPULT Learning & CORA Services will provide diagnostic testing, remedial reading and math, speech and language, psycho-educational testing, and counseling.

                                                              ACADEMIC RESOURCES:
We are also enriched academically by our Learning Support, CORA ,and Catapult Programs. Their dedicated staffs work with small groups of students who have been referred for testing and are eligible for participation on a regular basis.

                                                                       HOMEWORK:
Homework refers to an assignment given by a teacher that will positively reinforce a concept presented in class and includes both written and study assignments.  Assignments are issued in order to ensure independent mastery of subject matter taught in class and to provide enrichment.  Homework is a vital part of the learning process.  Students must assume responsibility for their homework just as they will assume job responsibility in the future.
Parental guidance and participation in home study, especially in the primary grades, is essential for the development of good and lasting study habits.  Parental care, interest, and supervision are of prime importance for all grades.
 
The recommended time allotment for written and studied assignments suggested by the Archdiocesan Office of Catholic Education is:
Grades 1 and 2 – 30 minutes   
Grades 3 and 4 – 60 minutes                                
Grades 5 and 6 – 90 minutes                               
Grades 7 and 8 – 120 minutes

N.B.  If a child consistently needs more time than is stated above, a parent/guardian is encouraged to get in contact with the classroom teacher.
In all grades, parents should check written work for completeness and neatness.  It is the parent’s responsibility to see that the child comes to school prepared to do his/her schoolwork.

                                                                           FIELD TRIPS:
Educational field trips, age appropriate and curriculum relevant, are encouraged.  Field trips are a privilege.  Students can be denied participation in a class/school field trip if they fail to meet academic requirements/standings; and/or behavioral requirements which include (but not limited to demerits), write up by the bus driver for behavior on the school bus, in school detention, and afterschool detentions.  No student may participate in any off campus field trip/activity without signed, written consent of the parent/guardian.
Unless otherwise noted, students wear the school uniform or the school gym uniform on field trips.  This is so our SDS students are easily identified and recognizable to teachers and chaperones when in a crowd.
* Chaperones are required to secure child abuse clearances before attending. 

                                                                ACADEMIC MONITORING:
Parent(s)/guardian(s) are encouraged to monitor their child’s/children’s grades on Option C.  It is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to maintain the password on Option C.  In younger grades test folders are sent home to be signed and returned to school. Passwords to Option C can be obtained from the school office. 

                                                              STANDARDIZED TESTING:
The Terra Nova test is administered each year.  Students in grades 3 through 7 this year will  participate in testing.  Results are communicated to parent/guardian.  Data from the testing results is used by the school and teachers for curriculum planning.

Testing is given in the spring.  Please refer to the school’s calendar for the exact dates.

                                                                 REPORT CARDS:
In order to enable students and parents to assess progress during the school year, report cards are issued three times a year, December, March, and June.  Parent conferences will be scheduled at the end of the first trimester, progress reports will be issued at the midpoint of each trimester. Conferences will be held with the child’s legal guardian.

A report grade is never simply the average of major tests.  Marks are determined by test marks, varying forms of assessment, class work, class participation, and projects.  Parents should keep aware of grades by signing, examining copybooks and workbooks and interacting with the teacher by phone call, note, or conference.
                                                                   Progress Reports:
Progress reports will be issued to students in grades 1-8 midway through each trimester as a form of communication to parents.  Progress reports are to be signed and returned to the teacher.

                                                            Parent/Guardian Conferences:
Parents/guardians wishing to discuss their child or some aspect of his/her education or discipline should first address their interest to the homeroom teacher.  If further need arises, the parent may opt to schedule a conference with the teacher and principal.  Conferences with teachers are done by appointment only.  Teachers are not available during school hours for individual conferences.  Conference requests may be arranged by calling the school office, email to the teacher, or sending in a note requesting a conference with the teacher.

                                                        PROMOTION AND RETENTION:
Promotion and retention are based on evaluation of academic, social, and emotional growth.  Careful assessment of a student’s performance and ability is considered before retention is recommended. The ultimate decision to suggest non-promotion is between the principal, teacher and parents/guardians.

Parents will be informed in writing of possible retention during the second trimester and arrangements will be made for consultation of all concerned parties.  Retention is considered as an alternative during the primary grades. After consultation with parents and teachers regarding retention of a student, the final decision rests with the Principal.

When a student in the middle or upper grades has one, or more, failure(s) at the end of the school year, they must make up this work through summer school, structured tutoring, or retention.  Proof of making up work must be presented to the administration before the beginning of the next school year.

                                       RECOGNITION OF PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENTS:
Distinguished, First and Second Honor certificates as well as Honorable Mention certificates are awarded to students in grades 4 – 8.  Effort awards are awarded to students in grades 1-2-3.

DISTINGUISHED HONORS:    96 and above in Academic Subjects and 3 or 4 in Personal Development,                                                           Effort, and Study Skills, and Specials

FIRST HONORS :          90 in Academic Subjects and a 3 or 4 in Personal Development, Effort, and Study                                           Skills, and Specials

SECOND HONORS:        85 in Academic Subjects and a 3 or 4 in Personal Development, Effort, and Study                                          Skills, and Specials 

Honorable Mention/
 AWARD:                             Consistent effort, cooperation, participation, completion of all home and school
                                             assignments both written and study and a 3 or 4 in Personal Development,                                                                           Effort, and Study Skills.

 End of Year School Mass will be Religion, Highest General Average, Effort and Perfect Attendance.

                                                             EIGHTH GRADE ACTIVITIES:
The eighth grade students have the opportunity to participate in activities unique to eighth grade.  Students who maintain an acceptable average, who have demonstrated responsibility and, who have demonstrated behavioral maturity are eligible to participate in these activities.

Activities include, but are not limited to, student leadership, year book, “Buddies” for PreK and Kindergarten, Secret Santa Helpers, CORA Career Day, retreat, eighth grade dance, graduation.

GRADUATION AND CLOSING EXERCISES:
Eighth grade students, who complete the course of study and curriculum as prescribed by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, are eligible to graduate from St. Dominic School.

Participation in graduation exercises is for students who have successfully completed, and passed, their eighth grade requirements; and, have demonstrated the appropriate behavior during the school year.  Participation in the graduation ceremony is a privilege, not a right.  The eighth grade homeroom teacher(s) and Principal determine graduation procedures. 

Any and all financial obligations to St. Dominic School must be satisfied in order for an eighth grade student to participate in graduation.

                                                              DISCIPLINE SYSTEM:
Effective discipline has as its end the development of students who respect themselves, other persons, and those in authority. (Policies & Procedures- Archdiocese of Philadelphia, S319).

To maintain a Christian atmosphere in SDS, students, faculty, parents/guardians are encouraged to have an appreciation for themselves and others.  The essence of Christian discipline is the encouragement given to our students to respect themselves and others, and they grow in self-discipline and responsibility.

The observance of school rules is a necessity in order to create an appropriate atmosphere for learning.  Faculty and parents must work together as we aid our students in their religious, academic, emotional, social, and physical development.  

Students are expected to put forth their best effort and to conduct themselves at all times in a manner that will promote a safe, orderly learning environment.  School and classroom rules and expected behaviors are developed with and for the students.

Any behavior that causes the learning environment to deteriorate or be disrupted, or which infringes upon the rights of other students in the school, will be addressed and the appropriate corrective measure(s) will be employed.  Therefore, behavior outside of school that affects the learning atmosphere in school will also be addressed.  These measures include; but are not limited to, the following:

Time out periods
Conduct Calendars are provided for primary students to be signed & returned
Each grade has specific procedures for Conduct Notations

N.B. - Once a behavior slip (demerit) is issued, it stands.  Behavior slips are to be signed by the parent and returned to the homeroom/issuing teacher.  These slips are intended as a means of communication between home and school. 

                                                   AFTER SCHOOL DETENTION:
When deemed appropriate, the issuance of an afterschool detention may be necessary.  Afterschool detention is served on Wednesday afternoon from 3:00pm-3:45pm under direct teacher supervision. Students are not excused from afterschool detention due to previous sports/athletic/social commitments. Repeated offenses, numerous demerits, and behavior unbearing of a Catholic school student will result in detention, at the discretion of the Principal. Younger students and bus-riders may be assigned a lunch/recess detention for 2 days.

                                                       IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION:
Is used at the discretion of the Principal when the student’s actions warrant immediate removal from the classroom but not necessarily from the school.  Parent/guardian will be notified by phone and in writing.

                                                            FORMAL SUSPENSION:
Is a serious disciplinary action taken by the school authorities against students whose actions constitute a major disciplinary infraction and are contrary to the good order of the entire school community.   Formal suspension is a suspension that warrants the student’s removal from the school community for a period of time.  Suspension is a major step towards possible dismissal.  Suspension is resorted to only when all other means of discipline have proven ineffective or if the situation warrants immediate action.  The student must be accompanied by a parent for re-admission to the school at the end of the specified suspension.  Documentation of such action will be kept on file during the current school year and entered in the student’s permanent record. 

                                                                      EXPULSION:
Ordinarily a minimum of two formal suspensions during the academic year may lead to the dismissal of a student. In certain incidents, the seriousness of the offense may warrant immediate expulsion from the school (S 319.2).  In other cases, it may require investigation and evaluation by the Principal and Pastor. 
St. Dominic School Policy for suspension and dismissal follows the guidelines (319.2) of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.  Major disciplinary infractions that could incur such serious consequences include, but are not limited to:
    -Violation of the Criminal Code (an offense involving police)
    -Gross defiance – failure to follow any reasonable request or directive
    -unauthorized leaving of school grounds or school sponsored event
    -truancy
    -verbal abuse, physical abuse, sexual harassment, confirmed bullying and/or cyber bullying
    -destruction of school property or vandalism or contraband
    -alcohol, smoking, vaping, drugs (possession, usage, intent to distribute)
    -intentional physical fighting on school premises or while in school uniform
    -physical/verbal/written threat against faculty, staff, volunteer, students, administration,
    -possession and/or use of weapon(s)
    -verbal threat to use a weapon to inflict harm against another student, faculty/staff member or             
     student body
    -immoral or indecent behavior
    -non-compliance with probationary contract set up by the school
    -destruction of school property, vandalism
    -violation of the Acceptable User Policy of the Archdiocese

These categories do not cover every possible situation, whereas a behavior occurs outside the situation above, the Principal/Pastor will determine the appropriate consequence.
    
                                                          SEXUAL HARASSMENT:
The school follows the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Policy prohibiting sexual harassment.  Sexual harassment refers to any unwelcome sexual attention, sexual advances, and requests for sexual favors or other verbal, visual, or physical conduct of a sexual nature.
 
Any student, regardless of age or grade, who is determined to have violated this policy, is subject to appropriate disciplinary action, including dismissal.  Any parent/guardian who is determined to have violated this policy is subject to appropriate legal action.

This policy applies both in and out of the classroom, in the school community generally and outside the school community, while the behavior is contrary to Catholic school teachings or could bring disrepute or embarrassment to the school.

                                                                         BULLYING:
Bullying occurs when a student or group of students targets an individual repeatedly over time using physical, psychological, emotional or relational aggression to dominate the victim.  Therefore, bullying behavior is repeated, intentional and has the goal to create and enforce an imbalance of power.

St. Dominic School, in accordance with PA Senate Bill 71, commits itself to provide a safe, positive, learning climate for all students.  Therefore, it is the policy of this school to maintain an educational environment in which bullying in any form will not be tolerated and not without serious consequences.  Students who believe themselves to be bullied are asked to report the incident to the teacher, guidance counselor (CORA team), or Principal.  Complaints will be investigated promptly, and corrective action will be taken.  The following steps will be followed:
When the teacher or principal receives the name of a student who is reported to be displaying bullying behavior, the teacher and/or guidance counselor will speak with the child to discuss the facts as they are known and the event will be discussed with the other student.
Upon discussion with the involved student(s), and when deemed necessary, a behavior slip will be completed and sent home with the student(s) for parent/guardian signature.
A phone call to the parent/guardian will be made by the teacher and/or principal.
Student(s) will be asked to write his/her account of the episode (age permitting).
An apology will be made to the student.
A written notice of this conference will be sent home for parent/guardian awareness and signature of such and will be kept on file in the principal’s office.
If a second conference with the same student(s) is needed for similar behavior, student(s) will lose classroom privileges.  Depending on the situation, other disciplinary measures may be acted upon.
If a third conference with the same student(s) for similar behavior is required, the consequences will be determined by the Principal and with consultation of the Pastor.  Suspension or expulsion may result.

                                                                          DRESS CODE:

              The St. Dominic School uniform is worn by every student in all grades PreK through grade eight. It should be worn neatly with a sense of dignity.  The uniform represents the parish, the school and community united in faith.

Navy blue T-shirt with school name and navy blue shorts.
Navy blue sweatshirt with school name and navy blue sweatpants.
Sneakers with laces or Velcro (no slip ons). White socks (not anklets) must be worn.

                                                                            HOODIES:
Hoodies may be worn to and from school. However, once the student has arrived in their homeroom, ALL hoodies are to be taken off and hung up in the cloak closet. SPIRITWEAR only is permitted. We do appreciate you supporting our school and purchasing Spiritwear. Perhaps on Dress Down Days you may want to wear your Spiritwear Gear. If you are cold, follow the uniform code and wear your school uniform sweater/vest. NO other hoodies are permitted.
 
 
                                                                  FIRST GRADE BOYS:
Shirts and Pants- Light blue banded bottom shirt with SDS logo may be worn all year round (short and/or long sleeve)  ***navy pull-on elastic waist pants OR navy twill pants are both acceptable at this level.
Socks – Solid dark colored socks must be worn, obviously above the ankle.  Anklets, sneaker socks are not permissible.
Shoes - Black Oxfords or a Velcro shoe (no sneakers) with non-marking heels; no school shoes may have logos on them.
             
                                                                 BOYS GRADES: 2-8:
Shirt - Light blue, perma- press, long or short sleeve
Tie    - Blue plaid for boys in grades 2-5; solid navy blue tie for boys in grades 6-8
Sweater - Navy blue cardigan Pull-Over/V-Neck or Vest with SDS logo must be worn with the winter uniform (shirt and tie) for boys in grades 6-8 and optional for boys in grades 2-5.
Pants - Navy blue dress – TWILL (65% polyester, 35% cotton) should be purchased at Flynn and O’Hara or DiGuilio Uniform Companies.   Corduroys or jeans are not permitted.
Belt - Solid black; MUST BE WORN WITH UNIFORM
Socks - Solid dark colored socks must be worn, obviously above the ankle.  Anklets, sneaker socks are not permissible.
Shoes - Black Oxfords (no sneaker shoe) with non-marking heels; school shoes MAY NOT have logos on them.
  
                                                                 GIRLS IN GRADES 1 TO 8:
Blouse   - Light Blue blouse – long or short sleeve
Uniform - Plaid Jumper with emblem for grades K-5; Navy blue jumper with emblem for grades 6-8.
Our dress code demands that the uniform be knee length!   This applies to girls in all grades.
Sweater - Navy blue cardigan or vest with SDS logo must be worn as part of the winter uniform for girls in grades 6-8; it is optional for girls in grades K to 5
Socks - Navy blue knee socks/stockings.
Shoes - Navy blue Oxfords or MaryJanes with non-marking heels; no school shoes may have                      logos on them.
 
In the wintertime, the girls at SDS have the following options. Girls may wear:
        1. dark blue stockings/tights
        2. dark blue leggings
        3. dark blue fleece lined stockings/tights
        4. Gym pants may be worn under the uniform to and from school, but once you arrive at school they              must be changed. Gym pants cannot be worn all day long.


                            SUMMER UNIFORM (Dates announced on calendar):

Navy blue Sweat Pants and Shorts.  “Shorts” must be mid-thigh in length or may not be worn.
Navy blue T-shirt with school name
T-shirt may be worn under sweatshirt in the event that the sweatshirt needs to be removed due to a rise in temperature. 
Sneakers- WHITE OR BLACK ONLY- with laces or Velcro (No slip-ons).    White socks [not anklets] must be worn.

                                                         REGULATIONS FOR GYM:
Students must wear the complete gym uniform.  A note from a parent/guardian is necessary in order for a
student to be excused from gym class.  A doctor’s note is required for a student to be excused from gym class for
an extended period of time.  Students may not leave the playing area without permission.

Students must report any injury that occurs in gym class immediately to the gym teacher.  The gym teacher
informs the principal and also calls the parent/guardian if an injury takes place.  In the case of a head injury, either
the gym teacher, nurse, or main office will inform a parent/guardian immediately.
Lack of preparation for gym class will be reflected in the gym grade.  The gym grade for grades 4-8 is based on preparation, conduct, and skills.

                                                                  GROOMING:
Hair styles- students are to groom their hair conservative in style.
 Hair should be neat and cleaned.
 Extreme lengths and styles are not permitted for either boys or girls.
Absolutely no-fad haircuts, colored hair, lightened hair etc
Boys are NOT permitted to have ponytails, hair buns, wild or long hair, etc. 

                                            MAKE-UP, JEWLERY, ACCESSORIES:
Make-up is not acceptable.  If worn to school, a demerit will be issued.This includes all students.
Nail polish/gel and/or artificial nails are not acceptable.  Nail polish remover is available in school. Extreme nail length and/or decoration are not permitted.  If worn an immediate detention will be given.

N.B. - for the 2022-2023 school year, the school staff recommits to adhering to the dress code 100% so that SDS students are identifiable in uniform, and are recognized as ambassadors of this school and our Church and its values.  We thank you for working with us in this challenging arena.

                   ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES TO DRESS CODE (ALL AGES, ALL GRADES):
The dates for the winter and summer uniform are announced each year by the school principal.
A scarf may not be worn in school
Hats and sunglasses may not be worn in school
Fingernails are to be clean and trimmed.  Artificial nails are not permitted.  Nail polish/gel nails and or nail decorations are not permitted.
No coloring of fingernails with marker, crayon, white out, permanent marker.
Beauty products (hairspray, hair gel, sprays, perfumes, body spray, glittered body lotions) are not permitted in school
No scented hand sanitizer.
Make-up in any form is not permitted. Including: eye liner, mascara, powder, blush, and colored or glittered lip creams/Chap stick.
Girls with pierced ears may wear one small stud earring per ear. No hoops or dangling earrings. 
Bracelets, ankle and wrist, pins and buttons are not part of the school uniform.  This includes all rope, yarn and beaded, sewn ankle or wrist bands.
Headbands may be school plaid or solid school colors.  Not fascinators, flowers, feathers, bandanas.
Cartilage piercings, body piercings are not permitted.
Temporary and/or permanent tattoos are not permitted, nor are henna markings or henna art.
Boys may not wear earring(s).
Non-religious necklaces or bracelets are not permitted.
Students may wear one ring on each hand.
Students may wear watches- alarms are to be turned off.
Shaved/bald heads, shaved hair designs/markings, bizarre haircuts of any type are not permitted for boys or girls.
Hair may not be dyed, frosted, tinted, highloghted or low lighted.
Boys’ hair length may not go past the eyebrows or over the top of the shirt collar.
The permanent and/or temporary alteration of a student’s natural hair color by bleaching, dying, hi-lights, frosting or reverse frosting, hair colors are not permitted.

                                                     DRESS DOWN DAY GUIDELINES:
When designated by the Principal, students may come to school dressed in casual clothes.  The following guidelines are to be followed:
Students may wear jeans in good condition (no tears, rips, holes, shredding)
Students may wear tee-shirts- no objectionable/offensive pictures, words, phrases, symbols
Students may wear sneakers, sandals with heel strap, closed toe shoes, school shoes.
No flip flops or shower shoes.
Students must strive to present themselves in a respectful and neat manner.
Make-up and jewelry, and hair rules are the same as when wearing school uniform.
Students may not wear:
Strapless shirts, halter tops, see through shirts, “shredded” shirts, tank tops, muscle shirts, mid-riff shirt or tops that expose the mid-section or do not cover the belly button, no low cut shirts or shirts that do not cover the bra straps; short shorts, skirts, or skort- the bottom of the short/skirt/skort must reach finger tips when arms are held straight at the sides; yoga pants, leggings, jeggings, cut-off jeans as shorts; flip flops, shower shoes, heels in excess of 1 inch, platform shoes, or platform sneakers.

The above mentioned are guidelines.  Please be advised that the teacher(s) and or administration can deem an outfit or clothing selection inappropriate even if the clothing item in question is not listed above.

Students who choose not to comply with the dress down day requirements will:
Lose the privilege of participating in future class/school dress down days
Be required to call parent/guardian to bring in child’s gym uniform/appropriate clothing 
Be issued demerits accordingly

                                                          DRESS CODE VIOLATION:
For any violation of the uniform dress code policy, a student will be given one warning.  Students in grades 3-5 are given two warnings.

After the warnings, student will receive after school detention for the next violation for any part of the school uniform code.  The detention will be served on Wednesday afternoon.  The detention is given for three violations of any part of the uniform code for all students and for two violations of any part of the uniform dress code for grades 3-5. A “grace period” of one week can be issued by the Principal when the parent has made a good faith effort to correct the violation. 

                                      NUTRITIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERVICES (NDS):
Under the direction of NDS, every student at SDS is entitled to receive a free breakfast and free lunch.  Information regarding these programs is distributed on the first day of school.  If you choose to participate in either program, or both programs, please complete and return all required information by the due date.

The NDS lunch program is facilitated under the direction of Mrs. Catherine Minor.  The NDS breakfast program is facilitated under the direction of Mrs. Minor as well.

Students have the option to participate in both programs during the school year.  Students also have the option to bring in a bagged lunch from home.  Lunches are to be nutritious, prepared, and ready to eat.  Soda is not permitted at school.

This year children in Grades 1 to 5 will participate in a fresh—fruit recess treat three times a week at Recess time. It is also an educational program as well, exposing the children to a variety of fruits & vegetables.
                                                                   SCHOOL SNACKS:
A daily snack time is scheduled for all students.  Snacks of a nutritional substance may be brought from home.   A snack that can be eaten in ten minutes without utensils is recommended. Water is permitted at the discretion of the classroom teacher.

When the weather is excessively hot, students are permitted to bring in bottled water from home.  The bottle may be refilled throughout the day at the water fountain.  Under this circumstance, only WATER is permitted.  Sports drinks, iced teas, iced coffees, soda, energy drinks, powdered or liquid additives and/or other beverages are not permitted.

New! Students are NOT permitted to enter the building with Hot Coffee/Ice Tea or any other beverages from D & D or Local Stores etc. In being proactive and to prevent any student from being burned, or slipping on spilt beverage floors, this is not allowed. Also thermos bottles being carried in one's hand, is not permitted either. Keep all thermos bottles in your lunch bag and once snack, lunch time occurs then you may display them. Walking the halls with cups, thermos bottles is NOT permitted. No one is permitted to have food deliveries at lunch time either. This includes parents/guardians going to pick-up lunches at McDonalds, etc.and then dropping it off at the main office. We have a hot lunch program and every child will be served something, even if they came in late or forgot to pack their favorite lunch. Dropping off alunch box or brown bag lunch is acceptable.  

                                                         DISTRIBUTION OF INVITATIONS:
Invitations to outside school parties or activities should not be given out on school property during school hours, if all students in the classroom are not invited.  If all students in the classroom are invited the invitations may be distributed at the Principal’s discretion.

                                                              BUS TRANSPORTATION:
Students are expected to behave in an appropriate and safe manner at all times while on the school bus. Any child/children who continually misbehave(s) on the bus will be removed from the bus.

Disorderly conduct at the bus stop or on the bus is unsafe.  Disorderly conduct is defined as, but not limited to, the behavior that distracts other students and is a hazard to the driver and others.  The bus driver is responsible for the transportation of students to and from school at the designated times.

                                                                   BUS SAFETY RULES:
Students are to be transported by the bus assigned to them by the Transportation Department of the School District of Philadelphia
Students may not ride another bus without written permission that is approved
Students may not disembark at any other stop than the location on the record and assigned to them
Students are to remain seated at all times during transportation
Students are to face forward at all times during transportation
The use of obscene language, offensive and/or hurtful language or of any obscene gesture is unacceptable
Physical fighting and/or encouraging the participation in any form of body contact with another student is prohibited on the bus and at the bus stop
Intentionally placing legs/arms or items in the aisle and blocking safe passage is prohibited
The extending of arms, or any body part, or item out of the window is prohibited
Destruction, defacing, or damaging the bus is prohibited
Screaming, yelling and intentionally creating excessive noise is not permitted
Marking, drawing, or writing anywhere on the bus is prohibited
Unauthorized opening/closing or tampering with the bus doors/windows/emergency exit is prohibited
Throwing objects of any kind is prohibited both inside and outside of the bus
Littering is not permitted
The consumption of food or beverage on the bus is prohibited
Failure to adhere to the policy/expectation set forth by the school bus driver, or being disrespectful to the bus driver or disregarding the instructions of the bus driver is unacceptable.

                                            VIOLATION OF BUS SAFETY RULES:
Any student who intentionally disobeys the rules of bus safety is a potential danger to everyone on the bus, and will be referred to the Principal.  The Principal has the discretionary privilege in deciding what disciplinary action may be warranted.
    First violation- parent notified, warning and demerits issued
Second violation- parent notified. May result in the loss of transportation privileges and/or other disciplinary actions.  Demerits issued.
Third violation- parent notified. May result in the loss of transportation privileges for a period of one to ten school days and/or other disciplinary action.  Additional violations may result in suspension of transportation privileges for the remainder of the school year.

For legal purposes, no student may ride the bus unless registered to do so with the school.  The school notifies the transportation Department of the School District of Philadelphia.  Parent/guardian is notified in the summer of the child’s designated route, pick-up time and drop-off time.

A parent may not change the manner of the child’s bus transportation of the designate bus pick-up/drop off location without notification to the school; and, confirmation from the school that the designated provider to SDS is aware of the change.  Changes to a student’s bus assignment may not be made without authorization and confirmation from the Transportation Department of the School District of Philadelphia. 

Those registered with the SDP Flat Rate Program must follow their protocol exactly. Enrollment periods are listed on their website under Transportation. The main office must know in writing if you are participating in this program. On the first of each new month, those registered will have to fill pout a form online as well as the school for each family. If we were not notified then we can not fill out any paperwork that month. Once submitted for the month, it then takes 2 weeks from the SDP to process your payment.

                                               FIRE AND EMERGENCY DRILLS:
Your child’s safety is one of our greatest concerns.  During the school year, fire drills, lockdowns, shelter- in- place drills AEP Drills, and emergency  evacuation drills are practiced.  Drill directions and exit routes are posted in each classroom.

                                                SCHOOL PREPAREDNESS:
SDS has established and maintains protocol for the following emergency situation and drills.
Fire drills (monthly)
Bomb threat guidelines
“Shelter in place” guidelines
School lockdowns (internal/external) guidelines
Unauthorized person/intruder in building
Building evacuation and relocation
AEP drills (Cardiac Arrest) 
Utility disruption (power, electric, water)
SDS practices these drills in accordance with local authorities.

                                                                      CARES:
SDS Parish offers parents a before and after school program, CARES, for a fee. The program operates from 6:30am until 7:45am and from afternoon dismissal until 6:00pm for St. Dominic School students/families only. Students are provided with supervised playtime, homework assistance, and afternoon snack.

CARES works with the school calendar.  When there is a half day, students may attend CARES for the entire afternoon at an additional charge.  It serves working families who desire both parochial school education and supplementary day care in a Catholic environment.

On snow days or unexpected early dismissal, CARES will provide services until 2:00pm.  The telephone number for the CARES program is 215-332-3376.

                                            Activities Coordinators & Parent/Guardian Participation:
The success of any school depends upon the interest and support of the parents.  The purpose of the Events Calendar is to assist parents/guardians and teachers in their mutual task of educating our children and allowing them to experience social events and interact with their classmates and school community. Parents/guardian support is welcomed at each event and volunteers can send word in, with each event flyer, if you have clearances and wish to help our coordinators.  The monthly calendar will list events and feel free to participate. It is not for fundraising purposes.Any fees collected are forwarded for the next event. It is self-supported, worked perfectly last year and the children enjoyed every event. This year we have several monthly events scheduled. We also welcome new ideas etc.

                                                            SCRIP PROGRAM:
This program runs throughout the year.  The certificates spend just like cash in stores.  When you purchase certificates, you will receive a voucher for money to be applied to any Catholic School tuition (grade PreK through college).  The vouchers are valid for three years.  You may purchase SCRIP and give the credit to your child, grandchild, neighbor, friend or any Catholic student.  SCRIP credits can also be given to SDS church.  For more details on this valuable program please call the rectory at 215.624.5502 .

                                                      
                                                                     HEALTH SERVICES:
Medical records – the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has mandated that all children entering Kindergarten or first grade present documented proof that the following immunizations have been received:
Diphtheria, 4 doses Toxoid – one after fourth birthday
Tetanus, 4 does Toxoid, one after fourth birthday
Polio, 3 doses
Trivalent Oral Vaccine
Measles, 2 doses of vaccine
Rubella, 2 doses of vaccine
Mumps, 2 doses of vaccine
Hepatitis B, 3 doses of vaccine
After the series of three Oral Polio Vaccines, Diphtheria and Tetanus, boosters are due between four and six years of age.  This should be followed by Diphtheria-Tetanus booster between 14 and 16 years of age with subsequent booster every ten years.  Please inform the school nurse, in writing, when boosters are given.

The state does not require Pertussis, Influenza (B), or Smallpox vaccination but parents should check with their pediatrician or physician for current practice.  For additional information, visit:   http://kids.phila.gov 

******  Prior to registration alll immunizations must be submitted and up to date. Please note that the Archdiocese of Philadelphia does not recognize ethical or philosophical exemptions at anytime. 

                                                                             NURSE:
The nurse is provided by the School District of Philadelphia.  SDS has a school nurse on two days a week. The nurse hours are 8:00am-2:45pm.  The nurse can only treat the students in grades K-8 unless the reason is life threatening.

The nurse is responsible for the annual checking of height, weight, hearing, and vision.  Should an issue be detected, the nurse will make a recommendation to the parent/guardian.  The nurse maintains all the student health records, on site, for students in the current school year.  In a medical emergency, the nurse may arrange to have the student transported to a hospital.

All students are required to be screened yearly as per state-mandated programs.  Student physical examinations are required within three months of entry into school and sixth grade.  Student dental examinations are required within three months of entry into school for students in third and seventh grade.  Sixth and seventh grade students are screened for scoliosis. 

If your child has a specific medical problem please notify the homeroom teacher and the nurse of the problem.  If your child has a medical problem, it is suggested that he/she wear a Medic-Alert bracelet.  Student emergency cards are kept for each student in the nurse’s office.  If there are any changes to your child’s medical health, please up-date all information.

                                                                   MEDICATION:
NO prescription medication(s) will be administered in school without specific orders from a physician.  Medications provided by the family must be kept in the school office and labeled with: student name, name of medication, name of physician, physician’s phone number, date(s) of dosage, time(s) of dosage, and amount of dosage(s).

NO medication including aspirin, Tylenol, cough syrup, cough drops, and/or cold remedies will be given to students.

It is strongly recommended that all medication be administered at home.  If it must be given during school hours, please request special information form concerning the procedure to be followed.

*If a child is seriously sick and vomiting uncontrollably or having serious bathroom issues (diarrhea) it is best that he/she goes home and remedies their condition. You will be called and asked to pick up your child.

*Please don’t send your child to school with a fever over 100 degrees, or vomiting or with a bad case of diarrhea. Students should be symptom free before returning to school.

                                                                     ALLERGIES:
Please notify the school nurse and your child’s homeroom teacher of any/all known allergies.  Please provide a detailed account of the allergens and protocol to be followed in the event of an allergic reaction.  It is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to make this information known to the nurse, homeroom teacher, and Main Office.

                                                                 LOST AND FOUND:
All items of clothing should be marked with student’s name.  Unclaimed uniform articles will be donated to the Uniform Exchange.

                                              SCHOOL CALENDAR AS COMMUNICATION:
A “tentative” yearly school calendar is provided to parents/guardians at the end of the school year in June.  The “tentative” school calendar lists priority dates/days within the school year.  It also lists early dismissals, school liturgies, faculty meetings, special school events, holidays and school closures.

A monthly calendar is provided to each child in time for the new month.  This monthly calendar may include more specific descriptions of the month’s activities/events. Flyers are sent home with each activity event.

EVERY EFFORT WILL BE MADE TO ADHERE TO THE CALENDAR; HOWEVER, IT IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.  LOOK FOR THE MONTHLY CALENDAR FOR ANY UP-DATES.

The school calendar will be posted on the school’s new website and the school’s SDS Facebook page.

                                                                   CAR TRAFFIC:
To provide for the safety of each student the cooperation of everyone is required.

For the safety of every child coming to school, NO ONE may park on school property beyond the school markers/cones.  Children do not know to “expect the unexpected”.  Please work with us to insure the safety of every child.

When dropping off students, please enter the property at the Pennypack Street entrance ONLY, and allow children to exit from the car on the driveway near the school building.  

You must ALWAYS exit right onto Frankford Avenue.  Left turns delay traffic flow.  This applies most especially on inclement days and/or when you are arriving late to school.   The front door of Marian Hall is open until 7:55am.

Please do not pull up on the side walk in front of Marian Hall for any reason.  The speed limit on school property is 5 MPH.

If a student is a car rider please know all students in car lines go to the back parking lot for dismissal.  When a driver is running late or there is any emergency, the student(s) is/are brought back to wait in the Main Office.

Parents parking outside of this area on the street cannot depend on such a safety measure.  Therefore, we implore you to use the car lot in the back of the school and NOT park on the street or at church.

Car riders should all be in the CAR line and not walking lines. Please consider this request for the safety of all.  The school is only responsible for students accessing parked cars in the designated area of the school lot.  Parents are responsible and liable for student safety at dismissal.

                                                                  IMPORTANT POINTS:
Dismissal pattern for car traffic will be the following: when you enter from Pennypack Street entrance, you are asked to pull straight into the back school yard and form rows of cars.  You are requested and encouraged to exit your car to look for your child/children.

Once the children are dismissed and it is determined that all children are in their cars, the car traffic will be signaled to leave the main entrance.  You are asked to exit RIGHT ONLY onto Frankford Avenue for safety and expediency.

You are asked NEVER to block the cemetery lanes.

Before school or at dismissal no cars are to enter the property at the school sign (main entrance) driveway.  Almost daily visual reminders are placed at the entrance to remind you that you are creating a safety hazard by not following this directive.  Students do not expect cars to come around the corner of the school building or be on the immediate property.  NO CAR IS EXPECTED TO ENTER THE SCHOOL’S IMMEDIATE SAFE ZONES (The entire perimeter around the school.)

Remember – CHILDREN FIRST—proceed with caution.

                                                                 DISMISSAL LINES:

Dismissal procedures will be assessed and monitored regularly to ensure the safest manner of arrival and dismissal.  Parents/guardians will be notified of any changes to current procedures.

-Pennypack/Kendrick – dismiss out of M.H. and proceed  left to crossing guards.
-Benson- dismiss out of Church Path door and proceed to crossing guard.
-Bus Line- dismiss to assigned teacher.
-CARES- follow Pennypack/Kendrick and are released to CARES Personnel.
-Car Line- dismiss out back in parking lot door and proceed in cars.

*For the safety of all children, parents should pick up their children at the crossing guards and refrain from taking them out of lines. 
                                         *Dismissal Procedures (2022-2023):
1.) Students will no longer be allowed to be picked up by an older sibling in ANY grade.
2.) Dismissal for PRE K and Kindergarten will be at 2:45 PM and an adult needs to be there for pickup. 
3.) Dismissal for Grades 1st through 8th will be at 3:00 PM and students will proceed to their designated dismissal whether it is Car line, Benson, pennypack, or CARES.

N.B. - addendums to this handbook may be added as needed.  Parent/guardian will receive any/all addendums added to this handbook for the 2022-2023 school year.

                                                              FOR TECHNOLOGY
                                       Catholic Schools of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia 

                                                                      PURPOSE:
Technology is a valuable and real world educational tool. All Archdiocese of Philadelphia schools will educate all students about appropriate online behavior, including: interacting with other individuals on social networking websites and in chat rooms, cyber bullying awareness and response to ensure responsible use of technology. The policy outlined below applies to all technology use including but not limited to Internet use. The Acceptable Use Policy for Technology applies to all students, faculty, administrators, staff, volunteers or community members allowed access to school technology resources. In some cases outside or personal uses of technology may be applicable under this policy. 

                                                                SCOPE OF USE:
We recognize that the digital world allows anytime, anywhere access. Uses mentioned in this policy apply to inside school use and may in certain instances apply to personal technology use and/or uses outside of school. Where personal outside use of technology threatens a likelihood of substantial disruption in school, including harming or interfering with the rights of other students or teachers to participate fully in school or extracurricular activities, these activities may be viewed as a violation of the Acceptable Use Policy and may be subject to the disciplinary measure found herein.
N.B. The types of electronic and digital communications referenced in this AUP include, but are not limited to, social networking sites, cell phones, digital cameras, text messaging, email, voice over ip, chat rooms, and instant messaging.

Our schools will make every effort to provide a safe environment for learning with technology including Internet filtering and safeguards. The students, faculty, administrators, staff, and school community are granted the privilege of using the computer hardware and software peripherals, and electronic communication tools including the Internet. With this privilege comes the responsibility for appropriate use.
In The Archdiocese of Philadelphia we use information and technology in safe, legal, and responsible ways. We embrace the following conditions or facets of being a digital citizen.
●    Respect One's Self. Users will select online names that are appropriate and will consider the
information and images that are posted online.
●    Respect Others. Users will refrain from using technologies to bully, tease or harass other people
●     Protect One's Self and Others. Users will protect themselves and others by reporting abuse and not forwarding inappropriate materials or communications.
●     Respect Intellectual Property. Users will suitably cite any and all use of websites, books, media, etc.

                                                 TECHNOLOGY USE GUIDELINES:
Educational Purpose/ Appropriate Use: School technology is to be used to enhance student learning. Students must not access social networking sites or gaming sites, except for educational purposes under teacher supervision.

Copyright/Intellectual Property and Identity: All sources obtained for teacher and student work should be properly cited. Users are to respect the rights of and the intellectual property of others in accordance with Federal Copyright Law. Transferring copyrighted material to or from a school without expressed permission of the owner is a violation of Federal Law.

Communications: Electronic and/or Digital communications with students should be conducted for educationally appropriate purposes and employ only school-sanctioned means of communication. The school-sanctioned communications methods include:
●    Teacher school web page, email, and/or phone number
●    Teacher created, educationally focused networking site

Teachers or administrators in their normal responsibilities and duties may be required to contact parents outside of the school day. A teacher or administrator is free to contact parents using a home phone or a personal cell phone. However, they should not distribute a home phone number or a personal cell phone number to students. If a student contacts a teacher or administrator using a teacher or administrator’s personal numbers, email or networking sites, the teacher or administrator should immediately report this to the administrator or appropriate authorities.
Electronic and Mobile Devices, Cellphones: Users must adhere to local school policy that may further define uses of mobile devices. The administrator of the local school will determine permissible use. If a particular mobile device is to be used for educational purpose, the school administration and/or teacher will provide parameters for this use.
                                     Examples of Unacceptable Uses - Users are not to:
Use  technology  to  harass,  threaten,  deceive,  intimidate,  offend,  embarrass,  or  annoy  any individual.
Post, publish, or display any defamatory, inaccurate, violent, abusive, profane or sexually oriented material. Users must not use obscene, profane, lewd, vulgar, rude or threatening language. Users must not knowingly or recklessly post false information about any persons, students, staff or any other organization.
Use  a  photograph,  image,  video, including-live streaming, or  likeness  of  any  student,  or  employee  without  express permission of that individual and of the principal.
Create any site, post any photo, image or video of another except with express permission of that individual and the principal.
Attempt to circumvent system security or to bypass software protections.
Deliberately visit a site known for unacceptable material or any material that is not in support of educational objectives. Students must not access social networking sites or gaming sites, except for educational purposes under teacher supervision.
Violate license agreements, copy disks, CD-ROMs, or other protected media.
Use technology for any illegal activity. Use of the Internet for commercial gains or profits is not allowed from an educational site.
Breach confidentiality obligations of school or system employees 
Harm the goodwill and reputation of the school or system in the community
Transmit any material in violation of any local, federal and state laws. This includes, but is not limited to: copyrighted material, licensed material and threatening or obscene material. 
Attempt to modify software and/or hardware configurations on a school issued device without proper permission and direction. 
Loading personal software onto a school device or school issued device without proper permission or direction.
Attempt to remove covers or protective shells to make repairs to hardware

Reporting: Users must immediately report any damage or change to the school’s hardware/software that is noticed by the user.
Administrative Rights: The school has the right to monitor both student and employee use of school computers and computer accessed content. Due to the evolving nature of Technology, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Office of Catholic Education reserves the right to amend or add to this policy at any time without notice.
                                                        Personal Use of Social Media:
This section of the policy refers to the personal use of social media sites such as, but not limited to:
Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Myspace, Instagram, Tumbler, Ask.fm, Snapchat, Vine, Kik, and Yik Yak.
Teachers and students may not mention members of the school community without their consent unless the subject is of public concern and the speech falls under applicable constitutional protections.
‘Friending’ or ‘Following’ of current students by teachers is forbidden on a teacher’s personal social networking site. Personal and professional posts’ must use appropriately respectful speech, and refrain from harassing, defamatory, abusive, discriminatory, threatening or other inappropriate communications. Teachers are encouraged to have professional accounts and parents are encouraged to follow for announcements and resources. Teachers are to inform local administrators as to any class utilizing social media. 
Policy Violations
Violation of the above rules will be dealt with by the administration of the school. Violation of these rules may result in any or all of the following:
●   Loss of use of the school network, computers and software, including Internet access. The student
will be expected to complete work on a non-networked, stand-alone computer system.
●   Issuance of demerits/detentions, if applicable.
●     Disciplinary action including, but not limited to, dismissal and/or legal action by the school, civil authorities, or other involved parties.

                     FYI:    Annual Parental Notification of Asbestos Management Plans...
In accordance with the EPA's Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) of 1987 (40 CFR Part 763, of the Code of Federal Regulations), Schools are required to give annual notification stating that the Asbestos Management Plan for each Building is available for public review.
This rule requires local education agencies to identify friable and non-friable asbestos-containing material (ACM) in public and private elementary and secondary schools by visually inspecting school buildings for such materials, sampling such materials if they are not assumed to be ACM, and having samples analyzed by appropriate techniques referred to in this rule.
In keeping with this legislation, SDS was inspected by EPA accreditied inspectors. on Tuesday 10/19/2021 and is inspected every 6 months. Our 3 year re-inspections were performed in accordance with AHERA and we did well.
A copy of these evaluations and plans are kept on file in the main school office. Our mainenance crew is likewise required to update their certification in this area every year as well. Last Inspection was 6/20/2023.
